University of Essex

About us

Established in October 2023, Ukrainian society of the University of Essex has already attracted over 25 active members, both of Ukrainian and international background. We aim to provide a sense of community to all Ukrainians in our university, as well as to make our contribution towards the support of our country in these trying times. We often hold fundraising events, such as bake sales, with the profits going towards charity foundations and volunteers in Ukraine. As a part of our activities, we have also held a number of events aimed at raising awareness of Ukraine and its culture - such as the screening of “20 Days in Mariupol”, an Oscar-winning documentary; holding a panel discussion on human rights in the context of the war with participation of distinguished international experts and one of our university’s professors; and organising various social events.

Our contribution to the community has been recognised with the distinction of Best new society being awarded to us at the end of the 2023-2024 academic year.
