University of St Andrews

About us

The Ukrainian Society at the University of St Andrews was reestablished in response to the full-scale war inUkraine. Initially formed by a group of PhD students, the society began by organizing volunteering opportunities, movie screenings, and educational talks to unite Ukrainians and raise awareness of Russian atrocities in Ukraine.

Officially reaffiliated with the University in early 2023, we joined the Ukrainian Student Union, reinforcing our commitment to promoting Ukrainian culture within our community. Currently,we have around 25 paid members, but our Ukrainian group chat connects all Ukrainian-speaking students and faculty at the University, including those who have not yet joined the society.

Throughout the academic year, we host a variety of events, including movie nights, academic discussions, and cultural celebrations. Last year, we organized events to commemorate the All-Ukrainian Radio Dictation of National Unity, the Day of Unity of Ukraine, and a demonstration marking the second anniversary of the full-scale invasion. Given our close proximity to the University of Dundee, we frequently collaborate withits Ukrainian Society, allowing our members to participate in a wider range of events.
