University of Sussex

About us

Since 2022, the Ukrainian community at Sussex University has grown significantly—from just six members to over 60! In February 2025, we proudly established the official Ukrainian Society, creating a dedicated space for Ukrainians to connect, support each other, and celebrate our rich culture on campus.

We actively promote Ukrainian heritage through cultural events, social gatherings, and collaborations with other societies, expanding our reach internationally. One of our most notable collaborations was with the Film Society, where we screened the Oscar-winning Ukrainian documentary 20 Days in Mariupol for a wider audience. We also organised a powerful on-campus demonstration on February 24th 2024, to raise awareness of Russian war crimes, emphasizing the importance of solidarity and justice.

Beyond cultural initiatives, we have hosted major events, including a large-scale gathering at the Business School, fostering discussions on Ukraine’s resilience and contributions. Additionally, in 2023 we brought the impactful Unissued Diplomas exhibition to Sussex, shedding light on the tragic stories of students whose lives were taken by war.

Our society also annually takes part in the university-led One World Week project. We proudly showcasing Ukrainian culture alongside other global communities, reinforcing our presence on an international stage.

More than just a student group, the Ukrainian Society is a vibrant and growing community where Ukrainians and friends of Ukraine can come together, share experiences, and make an impact.
