The Ukrainian Society at theUniversity of Warwick was established in October 2022 and was fully affiliatedwith the Warwick Student’s Union in October 2023. With around 30 due-paying members, its mission is to foster a secure environment where members can join forces to support Ukraine's cause while offering essential resources to empower Ukrainian students on campus.
The society organises a broad rangeof activities: from engaging academic events featuring influential Ukrainian speakers, to social gatherings that allowed Warwick students of all backgrounds to immerse in Ukrainian culture. At its core, Warwick Ukrainian Society is asafe space for Warwick’s growing Ukrainian community to meet, talk, have funand act. The society regularly undertakes fundraising efforts, by organising events on and off-campus and channelling proceeds from social gatherings towards Ukrainian charities.
The society works together with branches of the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain in Coventry (1) and Leamington Spa (2) as well as Ukraine-oriented academic networks at Warwick, such as the WUB-Hub (3), Leadership For Educational Transformation (4). We support the University’s efforts to collaborate with Ukrainian Universities and lobby the Ukrainian students’ interests in the SU and University administration.
The key events in WUS’s calendar are the academic lectures and panel discussions in February commemorating Ukraine’s resistance in the face of Russia’s barbaric invasion. The event series attracts representatives from the media, Warwick University's administration, and local government, and supports the collective commitment to aiding the Ukrainian cause.
